New Delhi: The students, staff and faculty members of the South Asian University are making
monetary contributions to the Earthquake Relief Fund to aid the victims of the recent earthquake in
Nepal.
They expressed their deepest sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives and property
caused by the disastrous earthquake in Nepal and eastern India. In a meeting held at the university,
the SAU community maintained a one minute silence to condole those who have lost their lives. Dr.
Kavita Shamra, President of this SAARC-established university read out a resolution to show
solidarity with the people of Nepal.
The students, staff and faculty members of the university are drawn from the SAARC countries
including Nepal. The university community resolved to pool resources in cash and kind as its
contribution to the ongoing rescue efforts. Most of the faculty and staff members are donating a
day’s salary while the students are collecting cash from the students. Some students spearheaded by
those from Nepal have resolved to go to Nepal in assist the rescue operations.
