CHAIRMAN OF PAKISTAN HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION CALLS FOR MORE COOPERATION IN EDUCATION

New Delhi: South Asian countries should come out of their cocoons and try to find the solutions to the challenges facing the region together. The countries could do with more cooperation in the field of education too, said Prof. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, Pakistan Higher Education Commission during a special lecture at South Asian University, New Delhi.  He was speaking on the topic ‘Right to Education in Pakistan.’

Prof. Ahmed spoke about the changing scenario of education in Pakistan and how the sector has progressed since HEC came into being in 2002. Attended by academicians, research scholars and students, the session was chaired by Prof. Yogesh Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Legal Studies, SAU. The HEC Chairman also talked about the importance of education and how it can serve as an engine for socio-economic development. He opined that it is the government institutions that should ensure that Right to Education is enforced equally for everyone in the society. Praising the efforts behind the successful functioning of such a unique institution as South Asian University, Prof. Ahmed said the people of the region have the right to know each other well and SAU is one such platform where young minds can learn from each other.

In the session that lasted more than an hour, Prof. Mukhtar Ahmed stressed on the necessity of having more collaboration in research among the scholars in the South Asian region. He also said the world needs to shift the focus from destructive science to constructive science to serve humanity better.
