New Delhi: 4 faculty members of South Asian University have been featured in the top 2 per cent of scientists in the world published by Stanford University, USA. This highly prestigious global list of top scientists is published every year around October.
The four SAU Faculty members who have made the cut are Prof. Ranjan K Mohanty, Prof. Pranab Muhuri, Dr. Jagdish Chand Bansal and Dr. Bijoy Chand Chatterjee. All four of them are from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Prof. Mohanty, who also is the Acting President of SAU, is a professor in the Department of Mathematics. He has been featured 4 years in a row in the Stanford list. Prof. Pranab Muhuri, from the Department of Computer Science, has been featured three times in a row in the same list. For Dr. Jagdish Chand Bansal from the Department of Mathematics, it is his fourth consecutive year to have made it to the list. Dr. Bijoy Chand Chatterjee, who is a DST Inspired Faculty in the Department of Computer Science, has been featured for the first time in the list.
The list is based on a database of 100,000 top-cited scientists from around the globe that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator (c-score). Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields according to the standard science-metrix classification. The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field. Calculations were performed using all Scopus author profiles as of October 1, 2023.
There are two lists which have been released — one based on career-long data and another focusing on the performance of researchers in the year 2022. The Stanford University’s list features approximately 3,500 researchers from India.
